International Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Awareness Day - March 4th 2025
Every year, March 4th marks International Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Awareness Day, a crucial moment to shed light on the risks associated with HPV and the importance of prevention.
HPV and cervical cancer: A global health challenge
Globally, cervical cancer remains the fourth most common cancer in women, with 660 000 new cases and 350 000 deaths recorded in 2022, according to the World Health Organization (WHO)1. These alarming statistics highlight the urgency of prevention, early detection, and effective infection control measures.
Germitec’s commitment to cancer research and prevention
At Germitec, we are committed to protecting patient and preventing infection.
Last December, some of our team members run 21kms during Bordeaux’s half-marathon (France) to support cancer research, successfully raising 2 100€ for the Fondation Bergonié, a French leading oncology research center.
The role of High-Level Disinfection in HPV prevention
Our UV-C High-Level Disinfection (HLD) solutions are scientifically proven to eliminate bacteria, spores, fungi, and viruses, including HPV and HIV in clinical conditions.
Recent studies confirm the efficacy of UV-C disinfection:
- Meyers et al. (2017) demonstrated that UV-C radiation effectively inactivates HPV, reducing the risk of transmission2.
- Pichon et al. (2019) further validated that UV-C decontamination systems are efficient in eliminating HPV from intravaginal probes, ensuring safer medical practices3.
