Endocavity Ultrasound Transducers: Why High Level Disinfection is Necessary!
This is the first research paper of its type that has undertaken a review of numerous published papers on the risk of infection transmission from endocavity transducers. It highlights the growing evidence of outbreaks and case reports of bacterial and viral transmission of pathogens associated with the reprocessing and use of low level disinfectants. The review supports and validates the need for High Level Disinfection (HLD) to be a global standard of practice for reprocessing of endocavity transducers. The paper concludes by recommending that the Joint Commission International (JCI) and other accreditation organisations mandate the use of HLD for endocavity transducers during the accreditation reviews.
